In third grade, students continue to work on developing reading skills and strategies. Students participate in whole group, small group, and individualized instruction. Some things they will be reading this year include the classic novels The Wind in the Willows and Pollyanna, as well as Roman and Norse Mythology. Students will also read a variety of Native American stories and so much more!
In third grade, students will write in several different styles. These styles include, but are not limited to, persuasive, narrative, expository, and poetry. Students will also develop skills to navigate independently through the writing process.
Third graders will continue to participate in the word study curriculum Words Their Way. Students will be given weekly word study patterns to learn and practice. Students will complete a weekly Word Study Homework Menu and take tests on words and their applicable patterns.
