Core Knowledge Science
Third grade scientists will learn about a wide-range of topics in third grade. Students will become taxonomists as they learn how to classify animals. They will uncover the secrets of the human body, learning about the skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems. They will learn the similarities and differences between sound and light. They will also have opportunities to think like ecologists, conservationists, and astronomers.

The majority of lessons in third grade are oral read alouds. The students will hear stories and information as well as viewing photographs and images to help bring the scientific narratives to life. There is no textbook for science in third grade. Therefore, if a student misses a lesson, it is important for him or her to have a chance to see and hear the missed material.
